Candle in the Jar – November ‘07
The candle flickered inside it’s glass jar as it set on the desk. A pen then found it’s way from the holder into the elegant fingers of her hand. She stared at the blank page of paper for so long, wondering just how to start it, then how to move on. With a deep, shaky breath, she put the pen to the paper.. and this is what it said..
Don’t wait for me, darling, can’t you see
Tomorrow was never meant for you or me
I’ll keep all our yesterdays close to my heart
For those memories can’t be torn apart
I know you have to go, there’s nothing else to say
But please remember, I’ll love you more than a day
It’ll never be what one needs to get by in this life
But please remember me, as I turn out the light
I’ll watch as the days pass by as the time goes on
The same old memories haunting while I’m alone
Wishing that time would stand still just one time
And then I will remember the day you were mine
And everytime I close my eyes, you’re all that I see
With each breath I take, I want you here with me
But I know it’s over because that’s how it has to end
With a love that was never meant to even begin
As her tears sprinkled on the paper, streaking the words. Fading them for all time. Even the ones that she couldn’t say, were written deep within her heart. Some things would just never change as she folded it up to seal with a kiss. A look out the window showed the rain as it fell like tears down panes. She slid the letter out of sight, then with a soft and quiet sigh, she gently blew out the candle dancing in the jar.
